Recently, many hobby musicians have come into the spotlight. Using social media networking online, unsigned acts have had a stronger fighting chance in the music industry than ever before. This leads many people to wonder if record labels can still compete with hobby musicians.

The truth of the matter is record labels definitely can. Undoubtedly so actually, as although record labels need hobby musicians to sign, the hobby musician needs the label to produce sales results.

New age media has allowed unsigned and hobby musicians to spotlight their music better than ever before. Sites such as YouTube, Pure Volume, Pandora, MySpace, Twitter and Facebook have all created new ways to reach a music audience without having to sign to a major record label. Although these sites have created buzz for artists, they do not make their career.

Most artists create a YouTube page, where they can not only post their music, but upload them playing live, creating a personal concert for the audience. Justin Bieber is one of the most successful artists originating from YouTube’s site. He uploaded hundreds of videos, generating thousands of followers and finally got the attention of both Justin Timberlake and Usher. As such, he was signed to Usher’s record label and has become incredibly famous. Although YouTube generated interest for Justin Bieber, it was the record label that really pushed him. As the record label has press outlets, such as television shows for appearances and radio for interviews and music play, Justin Bieber went from a boy singing on YouTube to one of the most successful pop stars of all time.

Colbie Caillat, like Justin Bieber is another pop star that made her start online. Using the site MySpace, she garnered attention of thousands of fans prior to touring the country and producing award winning albums. Although the social networking site would like to believe they created Colbie Caillat as she is today, it took a team provided by the record label to really market and brand her as a singer. With a team of producers that re-mixed her songs, to a designer that reinvented her style and a stylist that made her look beautiful, Colbie Caillat wouldn’t be who she is now without her label.

Although social media has allowed more hobby musicians to come into the spotlight, it does not mean record labels cannot compete. Labels have the man power, money flow and connections every artist needs to become successful. As such, labels need the artist, but more so the artist needs the label.

While expert DJs and music producers make their own beats and sounds, the simple beat-making enthusiast usually works with other people’s samples. This may be less rewarding on a very personal level, but it has its own advantages.

Making beats with samples is, in fact, the best and recommended way to start your music-making career. Any pop, hip-hop or even rock artist got his or her first tracks inspired by their favorite singers and bands. So why should it be any different to beat-making artists? Why pressure yourself trying to come up with new sounds from starters, when all you need do instead is use samples to get used to how beats work with one another?

The truth is that beat-making isn’t for everybody. It takes a lot of hard work, determination and, ultimately, talent to make your way up to the top of the industry. At first you won’t even be able to tell the difference between two beat-making software applications or one beat from another. After serious hours of mixing and experimenting with samples though, you will be able to find your way around sounds and beats.

The biggest advantage of making beats with samples is that samples can be found anywhere and most of the times even license-free. You can get online from your computer, browse hundreds of beat samples shared by other people and import the ones you prefer directly into your beat-making software application.

From here you can experiment with different effects, from pre or post-fading, to backwards playback and slow-motion. Later on, after you get a grip on how beat-making works and what beats go well together, you can even alter the free samples you downloaded to create your own, personal samples.

If you’re not sure where to start looking for free beat samples, you can take a look online at RoyaltyFreeMusic, Looperman and iBeat. Better yet, most of nowadays beat making software application allow you to download their trial versions for free. With them, you usually get a generous collection of sample beats which you can use to improve your skills and practice your beat-making abilities.

All in all, keep in mind that the road to glory in the beat-making industry always starts by making beats with samples created and shared by other music-making enthusiasts. So what are you waiting for? Start downloading your favorite samples and get creative today!

The internet has transformed the music industry, allowing independent and unsigned artists to choose from a wide variety of ways to get their music into everyones iPod. Instead of going around handing out hundreds of demos, musicians turn to the web to bring more exposure to their music and generate a huge following.

The internet is accessed by hundreds of millions of people every day, and it can open up some incredible promotional opportunities for anyone trying to break into the music business.

Many of the artists that we hear on the radio today have built their fame by creating a YouTube channel. Celebrities such as Greyson Chance, Marie Digby and Justin Bieber, are a few examples of individuals who have risen to fame for their musical abilities with the help of YouTube. It does not cost you anything to sign up and you do not have limits on the number of videos that you can upload.

Build a channel that is interesting and attractive to your target audience and be sure to put a lot time and effort into actually marketing your independent music to fans, music contacts, and to anyone else who will listen. Get your channel noticed by commenting and sharing as many videos as you can. Ask your viewers to subscribe, rate, and comment. This is a sure fire way to push your YouTube channel to the top of the charts and get your music heard by the masses.

Another increasingly popular source for independent music artists is the website Radio Reddit. There are currently four live stations streaming on Reddit- mainstream, electronic, rock, and hip-hop. The songs that are played on the live stream are chosen by the number of votes from the site’s users. As the votes for your song increase, so does it’s promotion and chance of being played on the radio. It is free to join; however, if you dish out an extra 20 dollars you can have a custom-made advertisement to promote your album.

You can also use your existing social networking accounts to promote your music with the help of an awesome app called SoundCloud. This app makes it simple to record on the fly or upload something you made before and see how the shape of your sound starts a conversation among your connections. Once you embed your sounds into one of the widgets, you can then post it to as many blogs, profiles or websites as you wish. After you have created enough buzz around your music, you can sell your sounds on iTunes, Amazon, and several other large digital distributors.

You may already have a profile on MySpace, but did you know that MySpace has a special profile section for musicians only? It’s the part of the site is where fans go to browse for new music, and you can add your tunes to the list right next to all of the big name musicians. MySpace Music is produced in partnership with four major labels to offer free streaming music. Users can generate unlimited playlists with up to 100 songs each, giving your music even more exposure among your friend connections. Think of it as a casual promotional tool that you can use to promote your new song releases, shows, and videos.

In addition to the internet, you should focus on building a local following. Sign up to play free shows, get involved in events, and visit open mic nights. Make sure you have plenty of demos to hand out in cafes or to gig-goers after concerts. Promotion for your music should never stop, even if the buzz around your sounds begins to slow down. Remember, not everyone will have caught your initial launch, so giving new fans a chance to discover your musical talent is critical to keep your career going.

There used to be a time when only professional musicians had access to awesome beat-making software and tools. But times have changed and nowadays not only that you can use the Internet to get access to free beat-making applications, you can even make your own beats and sell them.

Believe it or not, making beats to sell is no longer a privilege of the professionals exclusively. With the right plan and the proper sounds, today you can even put your old job behind you and start making a living solely from selling your personal music beats.

The idea behind making beats to sell is simple. Think about your own behavior: you get online and start searching for the right beat samples to work with. You don’t want just any beats, you want the best ones. And somehow you wish you’d be the only one to use them.

Now think about music producers and musicians in general. They think the same! This is the first thing you should keep in mind if you consider making money out of your beat-making hobby.

Secondly, you need the proper tools. Maybe you don’t have the latest synthesizers or expensive mixers, but for sure you have a computer with an Internet connection. Use it to browse online for the beat-making software that fits your needs the most. Experiment with different applications until you settle on one. Learn this one like it was your bank account passkey.

Start with simple beats. Keep in mind that most of your beats will probably back up rappers and hip-hop musicians therefore you need to give them space to sing their lines between the beats. Once you get a grip on how to do this and how to keep a cool rhythm, add complexity to your beats. Save your beats in popular file formats, otherwise you’re going to lose the public’s interest.

Last but not least, find the right places to market your beats. The secret to making money by selling beats is not making the best beats, but finding the right customers. Join online beat-making communities and hip-hop forums. Use your social network profiles to advertise your own beats. Ultimately, set up an online store where people can listen to some of your own beat samples and then purchase them.

All in all, making beats to sell is not as complicated as it may sound, and with a little motivation, anyone can get started quickly and easily.

Debating whether or not beat making software applications are better than drum machines is not an easy assignment. We all know that most successful music producing studios are packed full of the latest hardware. Can the same musical performances be reached using beat making software?

Like in any debate, opinions are divided. There’s no lie in admitting that professionals rely on hardware devices rather than software, when it comes to music and beat making. But believe it or not, sometimes this happens because it would look silly to tour around the state with only a laptop computer in your suitcase, rather than big, fancy mixers and synthesizers.

However, let’s focus on the average person, the simple beat making enthusiast. For such a person, drum machines are not only a luxury, but also a pain when it comes to space management. Like any other hardware devices, drum machines require a lot of space and maintenance. On the other hand, beat making software only requires a minimum computer configuration and maintenance only reduces to checking the sound volume or cleaning the screen when it gets dirty.

Another battle that beat making software wins versus drum machines is that often software incorporates more than just drum beats. In fact, most modern beat making software applications come with a wide range of instruments implemented. Drum machines, synthesizers, mixers, musical instruments, ambient sounds, all work together in today’s beat making applications. And who wouldn’t prefer the possibility to simulate an entire orchestra over just a simple drum kit?

Drum machines versus beat making software can also be a financial debate. In fact, in many cases it is. Even if you prefer the sound of a drum machine over the sounds you can generate on your computer, chances are you simply can’t (or don’t want to) afford drum machines. And while some high-quality drum machines can easily cost you thousands, most beat making software is nowadays available at least as demos, if not entirely free.

All in all, if you were to turn your beat-making hobby into a full-time occupation and business, the best way to start it is with beat making software. Go online, get your free applications and beat samples and start experimenting today. Later on, when you get a grip on beat making, consider upgrading your gear with hardware components as well.

Remember the times when spinning vinyl disks backwards and making mix-tapes were pretty much the only music-making processes we could afford? Or how prodigal the music producers seemed when they were announcing that our favorite artists were going to release a new album in a couple of months?

Truth is that the music-making process will always have its amazing history deeply embedded in our memories. That’s because back in the day, you really had to be a musician to be able to make your own sounds and beats. But how are things today? Who makes music nowadays? Do you still need to have high-up contacts who work at a music studio, in order to have access to the proper beat-making tools?

Fortunately, you don’t need to be a musician to make beats today; nor to be friends with musicians or music producers of any kind. With the fast evolution of the Internet, anybody can make beats these days. Yes, the times when only musicians had access to sound-making devices are long behind us. Beat-making software, online beat generators, digital mixers and digital synthesizers, free beat samples and sounds, all are now available to anybody who owns a computer and a decent Internet connection.

It’s true that professional musicians will always have access to the latest digital synthesizers, mixers and beat-making software, and may even invest in personalized versions. Even so, the variety of products an amateur can choose from today is quite impressive.

Did you know that nowadays there are literally hundreds of websites which allow users not only to download and try their beat-making software for free, but also grants access to libraries containing thousands of free beat samples?

Essentially anyone with a passion for beats can download these beats and experiment with them however he or she wishes, generating their own music. Moreover, you can alter these samples applying different effects and then upload them online, to share your own generated beats with everyone else.

In conclusion, it’s safe to say that nowadays you no longer need to be a musician to make beats. Beat-making software, digital mixers, digital synthesizers and even free beat samples, all have become available to the wide public, making the world a better place for music-making enthusiasts. Time to put those old disks and mix-tapes in your treasures chest and get on wave with the latest beat-making software applications and beat samples that the Internet has to offer.

So you just returned from partying out with your friends and you can’t remember the name of that awesome track you danced to all night, but that crazy beat is still very vivid in your ears? And even after you find out the title and artist name and listen to it for several hours on repeat, you still think it’s the best song you’ve ever heard?

We all have been there and know that feeling. And we can’t help it: music mesmerizes, it makes us do its bidding. We dance to it for hours, until everything from image to sound flows to the same rhythm.

And maybe sometimes we wonder how is it possible for one to produce such sounds digitally and what high-tech devices are required.

The truth is that almost every single music artist we hear perform nowadays, uses or has used some sort of music making software. This happens because the costs of music of beat making software are far more convenient than the ones of complex beat (or music) making hardware. And this leaves out space issues, as well. Imagine attending a pop or techno music concert where the musicians are trying to dance their way between huge synthesizers and mixers, constantly looking down so they won’t trip on the numerous cables.

Believe it or not, even those big music producing companies, for whom the costs of beat producing hardware aren’t a bother, prefer to use beat making software instead.

So if you’re a fan of Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Beyonce, Usher, Nelly, Jay-Z, Chris Brown or Mary J Blige, rest assure that several beat weaves they sent to your ears over the past few years, were created with beat making software.

‘Poker face’, ‘Rude boy’, ‘Confessions Part2’ and many other popular tracks were digitally enhanced through beat making software applications.

But don’t think that you have to be a music star to be able to use beat making software, no! Literally anyone create their own music and beats, with minimal effort and talent.

DUB Turbo, Sonic Producer, Fruity Loops Studio and Sony Acid Pro are notorious beat making software applications, used widely by both professionals and amateurs.

So if you think you have what it takes to become a famous music producer, be sure to drop online at any of these products’ websites and download the free trial installer which will allow you to get a grip on how beat making software works.

Although many websites and software applications nowadays offer a wide range of free beat samples, one should never settle down for these and instead make his own beats.

Odds are that even if the i1nternet provided beats are free for personal use, you would still have to pay a heavy toll to be able to use them for commercial purposes.

Which is why, as a true music enthusiast and rising artist, you should start producing your own beats. As mentioned above, one first good reason would be that if you make your own custom beats and samples, you won’t have to pay anyone copyrights money once you put out your first album.

Moreover, even if you only mix occasionally in some night club a friend of yours owns, making your own beats is a great way to create new opportunities: some music agent might decide you’re worth it and offer to promote you, some people might offer you money to mix at their own parties or events and in the end, you’d make a name for yourself and a lot of new friends who would respect you for your originality.

But perhaps the greatest advantage of them all is that making your own beats and samples is a great way to learn and grow as a young music maker. It can help you better understand what kind of beats work well together and what kind you should leave aside. It also helps you get much more familiar with the beat making phenomenon, easing up your future work in this complex industry. Ultimately, making your own beats helps you better understand yourself; it helps you connect better with your emotions and ideas and it helps you reveal your true potential.

Last but not least, making your own beats is a great way to send a message out there, reminding the big names in the music industry that true art is created through hard work and perseverance and does never come for free.

In conclusion, whether you really are considering starting a career in the music industry or you just want to be appreciated for what you do in the club where you mix, you should really try to make your own beats. Stop making rich some people who lack the talent or have no real message to send across and start creating your own music and beats, proving that real art is created thorough passion and not money.

Raise your hands those of you to whom the following ever happened: it’s the weekend, Saturday night, you’re in some bar with your friends enjoying a chill drink when all of the sudden an awesome tune blasts your ears, hypnotizing you.

You start dancing to it, moving your body like it’s the last song you’ll ever hear. After you’re done you keep asking your friends “Does anybody know the name of this track?? I love these rocking beats!!”

Have you ever noticed how the most popular songs today all have some really sick beats to them? And this happens regardless the genre. Pop, R&B, Hip-Hop, House or DNB, all these music genres use beats. And the truth is, in most cases beats greatly enhance the quality the music.

But what exactly are these beats or who makes them? How is it possible to produce sounds that seem pulled directly from Science-Fiction movies?

Whether you’re a real music enthusiast or for sheer curiosity, know now that most beats you hear in today’s music are created digitally, through beat making software. These beat making software applications emulate a wide range of hardware synthesizers, samplers, signal processors and mixers, giving one the possibility to create music digitally without the burden of actually owning any of those pieces of equipment. Such software therefore solves both expense and space issues.

DUB Turbo, Sonic Producer, FL (Fruity Loops) Studio, Sony Acid Pro and Reason are the five most commonly used beat making software applications. These names might leave you cold, but to someone who has at least minimal knowledge of music producing software, they are milestones.

But if you were to start making your own beats and music, how were you supposed to know which one of these top products to purchase? After all, they aren’t exactly cheap.

Well that’s true, but honestly, what comes free nowadays? And moreover, why pay for any of these products when you can first try them all on trial?

That’s right! Luckily for you, if you visit any of these beat making software applications’ websites, you will find a download link to try them for free and see if they meet your expectations. In addition, there are countless video tutorials all over the Internet teaching you the very basics of beat making software. All you have to do is keep your eyes and ears wide open.

Whether you’re trying to make your entry in the music industry or just need some crazy beats for the club where you occasionally mix, this article is going to help you pick up an online beat maker.

If you ask yourself what are the advantages of an online beat maker or why should you use an online beat maker instead of a downloadable one, then here are some good reasons to start with:

System Requirements: A lot of times you simply cannot afford to install some new software because it won’t work on your computer or it will take up too much hard drive space. One of the main advantages of an online beat maker is that it doesn’t require installation, therefore no reason to worry about your hard drive space.

Mobility: Another major advantage of online beat makers is their mobility. In order to attract more users, online beat makers are usually a lot faster and easier to use than the installable beat makers. Their features and controls are much easier to understand and that’s great because nobody likes to spend too much time trying to figure out an online application.

Storage possibilities: A great feature most online beat makers have nowadays is the possibility to save your beats on your online profile. This gives you control over your files from anywhere where you have access to an internet connection and doesn’t require you to carry your computer around all the time. Moreover, some online beat makers even allow you to send your beats to your e-mail address, or even to your social network profile. This way not only you can easily keep track of your beats, but you can also share them with your friends and contacts.

Reduced costs: Maybe not one of the most important features for you, but still good to keep in mind is that many online beat makers attract a lot of users thanks to the fact that they’re free of costs or run solely on donations. This way anyone can benefit from the applications without the need to pay or download anything.

Although the list of advantages of online beat makers is a lot longer and continues to grow as new versions are being created, these essential aspects presented above should motivate you enough to at least try an online beat maker for a while.
